Schenk Takes Title At Indiana Amateur

Unknown-1SOUTH BEND – Adam Schenk claimed the title of the 113rd Indiana Amateur Golf Championship Thursday after leading wire-to-wire.

The Purdue senior shook off a shaky fine nine holes Wednesday to pull away to a comfortable seven shot victory.

Schenk fired a three-under final round of 68 Thursday to win the championship at the South Bend Country Club. His round included sinking a 25-foot eagle putt on the par four No. 9.

Schenk, who hails from Vincennes, finished at five-under 279 for the tournament.

Bobby Jacobs of Valparaiso, a freshman to be at Bradley University, was runner-up at 286. Jacobs shot a 74 Thursday.

The top area finisher was Michael Makris of South Bend. The standout golfer at Mishawaka Marian High School finished tied for 14th place at 293. Makris fired a 71 in his final round Thursday.

Tyler Ostrom, a former standout at Warsaw, tied for 16th place at 294. The current Ball State University golfer and former state champion shot 73 Thursday.

Tracy Miller of Bremen and Gavin Wilkinson each finished the tournament at 295 to tie for 19th place. Miller shot a 78 and Wilkinson a 75 Thursday.

Mentone’s Trey Stoll, who plays for Grace College, finished tied for 33rd place at 299. The Tippecanoe Valley graduate shot 73 in his final round.

Quentyn Carpenter, who just finished a brilliant prep career at Triton, placed 56th at 310. Carpenter, who earned All-State honors in leading the Trojans to the State Finals this season, shot 75 for his final round.
